Order online through the Subscribe link on StedmansOnline.com. For help regarding the status of your subscription order or renewal, call our Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-638-3030 between 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. EST. You may also contact Customer Service by e-mail at email@example.com or by fax at 1-301-223-2320.
What if I forget my user name and/or password?
You can retrieve your login information by clicking the Forgot Your Password? link on the home page and entering your e-mail address. You will then receive an email to reset your password. If you experience any problems, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call our Technical Support Help Desk at 1-800-468-1128 (U.S.) or 1-301-223-2344, Option 4 (from outside the U.S.).
When does my subscription start?
Your subscription starts as soon as your payment clears. For subscriptions ordered online with a credit card, this will be as soon as the credit card transaction is complete. For orders faxed to our Order Department, this will be when your payment is recorded. You will receive e-mail notification when the subscription begins.
How can I evaluate the site before I make a purchase decision?
StedmansOnline.com offers a free 30-day trial that allows you to examine the content and features. Click the Subscribe link on the homepage and then click on the Sign Up button under Sign up for a FREE TRIAL. Follow the prompts to sign up for your 30-day trial.
How private is the information that I supply in my registration form?
Can I share my individual subscription with others?
How do I change information in my personal profile, for example, a new address or telephone number?
Click the My Subscriptions tab on the upper right side of your screen. This will bring up all your subscriptions as well as your Profile information. Make any changes you wish and click the Save Changes button to save. You will receive a message at the bottom to indicate that your profile has been successfully updated.
Can StedmansOnline.com accommodate institutional licenses by IP address, referring URL, or User Name/Password configurations?

Why don't I see more of the page?
How much of the page you see depends on your monitor screen resolution. We recommend viewing at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 (for best results) or 800 x 600.

Which browsers and platforms are supported? Which are not supported?
StedmansOnline.com currently supports the following browsers: Apple Safari (version 4 or higher); Google Chrome; Mozilla Firefox (version 3 or higher) on Microsoft Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems; Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer (11.0 and higher).
Can I safely use pop-up blockers on the site?
No. Please disable all pop-up blockers. Some core content, including notes, appears in pop-up windows.
Why can't I hear the audio?
Make sure you have your speakers turned on and up to a sufficient volume and that your computer's system sound is not set to mute or too low a volume. If you continue to have trouble, reboot your computer and/or switch browsers.
How do I search for a term using different filters?
The search bar (located at the top of the home page underneath the A-Z bar) has a drop-down menu that allows you to search by:
- All Definitions: Search all terms in your subscription product
- Abbreviations: Enter an abbreviation and see its matching term
- References: Search PDF references by topic
- Illustration: Search illustrations by topic
- Videos: Search videos by topic
- Audio: Search for a term and see matching terms with pronunciations
How are dictionary terms organized on Stedman's Online?
To navigate terms using the A-Z bar at the top of the screen, click on a letter to see an alphabetized list of subsets that, in turn, contain lists of terms starting with that letter. For example, if you are looking for the term "bone marrow," click on the letter "B," the subset "bone graft – bothrium" and the term "bone marrow."
When viewing a list of subsets, navigate to other subsets using the drop-down box at the top of the screen. You also can navigate to adjacent subsets using the blue and green Previous and Next buttons.
When you click on a term, you will see the definition and associated content, if any (illustrations, references, videos, etc.). Navigate to preceding and next terms using the blue links at the top of the screen. In the case of "bone marrow," the preceding term is "bone loss," so click the link for "bone loss" at the top left to go back to that definition. The next term is "bone marrow acid phosphatase," so click that link at the top right to view that definition.
Why are some abbreviation expansions followed by this symbol:
In keeping with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and The Joint Commission directives regarding Error-Prone and Do Not Use abbreviations, such terms are designated with . Your institution may have specific terms on its internal Do Not Use list, and that takes precedence over Stedman’s.
How do I view multimedia content?
Access multimedia content by: (1) clicking on Illustrations, Videos or References in the green bar at the top of the screen or (2) clicking on audio pronunciations, images, videos and/or references that appear with definitions. Note: Every term does not have multimedia content.

How do I browse all the available illustrations?
Click the Illustrations tab on the green bar at the top of the screen to see a list of subject links. Click a subject link to view related images. Click the blue links for Related Terms to view relevant definitions. When viewing thumbnail images, click View Large to see a larger version.
When you are in the Illustrations area, you can browse images using the A-Z bar at the top, which functions like the A-Z bar for terms. For example, click the letter "D" to see all terms starting with the letter "D" that have images. Then click each term to view related images.
How do I browse available videos?
Click the Video tab in the green bar at the top of the screen and then browse by subject areas. Play videos by clicking the blue Play Video link or clicking the video image. Wait for the video to load. To start the video, click the Play button in the lower-left side of the video screen. Each video is accompanied by blue links to related terms.

How do I browse available references?
Click the Reference tab in the green bar at the top of the screen and then browse by subject areas. Click on a subject area to see available References, and then click each to view.
What is My Stedman's?
My Stedman's allows you to add and customize site content by adding your own terms and definitions, saving word searches that you perform, saving and downloading illustrations, and adding your own individual notes next to definitions. Access My Stedman's by clicking the tab in the green bar at the top of the screen.
How do I add a term in My Stedman's?
From My Stedman's page, click Add a Term. Key in information in the spaces under Enter Term and Enter Definition. Use bold, italics and other buttons to format entry, add symbols, or insert hyperlinks. When finished, click Save Term.
Recently added terms appear on the My Stedman's page. To see all your terms, click View All My Added Terms. Links next to each term enable you to edit or delete.
How do I save a search in My Stedman's?
After using the search bar function to produce a list of terms, click the green "Save This Search" button at the top-right of the screen. View recently saved searches from the My Stedman's page. To see all your saved searches, click View All Saved Searches. From here you can click on each search to view or delete.
How do I save illustrations in My Stedman's?
You can save an illustration only when viewing an image using the View Large function, not when using the thumbnail view. Next to each thumbnail image is a View Large link, which opens the image in a new window. To save, click the Save To My Stedman's button at the top-right.
The My Stedman's page will show your most recently saved image. Blue links allow you to view in a large format, download or delete. Dark blue links allow you to view related terms and definitions. To see all your saved illustrations, click View All Saved Illustrations. From here you can select multiple images to download or delete.
How do I add notes to definitions?
When viewing a definition, add a note by clicking the blue Add a Note link on the right-hand side of the screen. Format the note using bold, italics, symbol, hyperlink and other buttons. When finished, click Save Note.
The My Stedman's Page allows you to view, edit and delete notes. Recently added notes will appear on the page, or click View All Notes. Links next to each note allow you to edit or delete. Click on the blue term to view the definition along with your note.
